Tús Community Work Placement scheme

We manage the Tús Community Work Placement scheme for the Bray area.

Tús provides short-term work opportunities for unemployed people in local community and voluntary organisations.

Most participants are referred to us by the Department of Social Protection, but we can also accept applications directly from people who are unemployed and would like to take part in the scheme.

Participants benefit from gaining work experience and skills, and local community groups are able to provide enhanced services in the community with the support they receive from Tús staff.

Interested in getting a Tús worker for your community or voluntary group?

This is the kind of work that is eligible under the scheme - so get in touch if you have vacancies in any of the following areas:

  • Environmental services
  • Caring services
  • General community services
  • Heritage and cultural services
  • Para-educational services

Tús Case Study: Enhancement of local estates

Photo of flowerbed in WHAD estate

One of the lovely flower beds

Our Tús workers have been working on a project to transform and maintain flower beds and hedging around green spaces in the Whiteoaks, Heatherwood, Ard na Greine and Deerpark estates, in co-operation with the local Residents Group.

The flower beds are not maintained by the council and, while local residents had done their best, over the years they had become overgrown and a dumping ground for all kinds of litter.

Our Tús workers cleared out and removed all the rubbish, weeds and old plants, and planted a range of new robust and attractive plants and shrubs - and they continue to provide ongoing maintenance support.

Feedback from local residents has been really encouraging and many are now getting more involved - when our Tús Participants finish their work, and return to the site next day, they often find that some of the local residents have done more work on the flower bed themselves.

As well as the obvious benefits to the local community, our Tús workers are gaining useful skills and experience in Horticulture.

We are grateful to Wicklow County Council for a Community Awards grant to purchase plants and to GreenKing Composting for providing free recycled mulch.
